Hi everyone! Today we released a miniscule update to Subnautica on Steam. This update stops Windows Defender from identifying Subnautica as malware. We promise Subnautica is an underwater adventure game, not malware, and now Windows Defender agrees!

We can all thank Jonas for a speedy weekend turnaround on this. He went above and beyond to prepare this update after discovering the issue on Friday.

The wait is almost over. Subnautica is coming to Xbox One on December 4th, 2018. You will be able to buy Subnautica digitally or on a physical disk. If you are in Europe, physical disk sales will start three days later on December 7th.

Many of you have already purchased Subnautica through Xbox Game Preview. On launch day, your Game Preview copy will automatically become a full release copy – You don’t need to buy the game again.

To everyone in Game Preview: We extend our most heartfelt thanks. You have waited for months, enduring awful bugs and tanking frame rates. Your feedback has been invaluable in helping us to craft the upcoming 1.0 release. On launch day you will be able to download the 1.0 update, and enjoy a big increase in performance, smashed bugs, and new content.

Now, let’s talk about dates. Game development is a wild ride. We are very confident we will hit December 4th, but there is always a chance of last minute catastrophic failure. If something happens, we will keep you updated.

This is Unknown Worlds’ first console release. We are traditionally a PC game developer, so we are super nervous and super excited. We are very thankful to Panic Button and Gearbox Publishing for helping us to bring Subnautica to Xbox One.

On launch day, we will need your help to get the word out. If you would like to help, follow @SubnauticaXbox on Twitter, Subnautica Xbox on Facebook, Subnautica Xbox on Youtube, and sign up to the Subnautica Xbox mailing list. When we go live, every retweet, share, and like will help. We hope as many people as possible will have the chance to dive into Subnautica’s depths.

To everyone in Game Preview: Again, thank you. To everyone waiting for launch day: We can’t wait to see you on Planet 4546B. Prepare to dive.

The wait is nearly over. Subnautica is coming to PlayStation 4 on December 4th, 2018. You will be able to buy Subnautica digitally or on a physical disk. If you are in Europe, physical disk sales will start three days later, on December 7th.

It’s important we be honest about dates. We’re very confident we will hit December 4th, but we can never be 100% sure of any date, ever. Game development is a wild ride. Unexpected issues could still cause a last minute delay. If something happens, we will keep you updated.

This is going to be Unknown World’s first console release. We are traditionally a PC game developer. So we are super nervous, and super excited. We are thankful to Panic Button & Gearbox Publishing for working with us to bring Subnautica to PlayStation.

Thank you to everyone that pushed us to release on PlayStation. Your tweets, emails, and other messages were instrumental in bringing about the decision to bring Subnautica to consoles. We are grateful for your patience as we have navigated the unfamiliar waters of PlayStation development.

Come launch day, we will need your help to spread the word that Subnautica is available on PlayStation. If you want to share the news, follow @SubnauticaPS on Twitter, Subnautica Playstation on Facebook, and sign up to the Subnautica Playstation newsletter.

Countries missing from the PlayStation Store

Yesterday Subautica launched on PlayStation & Xbox, on both physical disks and via digital download. Unfortunately, the PlayStation Store is not presenting Subnautica in the following countries:

  • Norway
  • Belgium
  • Netherlands
  • Denmark
  • Portugal
  • Turkey
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • UAE
  • Saudi Arabia

We were caught off-guard by this. We are traditionally a PC developer, and used to our games being released worldwide, without exception. We want Subnautica to be available on every country on Earth.

Unfortunately, we have run into a Sony restriction. If Subnautica is not fully localised for a particular country’s active language, they will not sell the game in that country.

Subnautica localised in many languages. It is not fully localised in the countries above. We are racing to solve this problem, but our options for a short term fix are limited. Releasing updates on consoles is a very involved process. We don’t think we will be able to solve the problem until next year.

We apologise profusely and unreservedly to all of you affected by this problem. Many of you have waited patiently for Subautica on PlayStation and we are devastated that we have let you down.

If you would like to help us in the race to localise for these countries, please visit https://translate.unknownworlds.com/, where you can help translate Subnautica into any language you speak.

We will update you as soon as we sort this out.

Subnautica PlayStation 1.04 Released

Subnautica on PlayStation has just been updated! 1.04 is a small update to address some crashing issues that popped up after launch yesterday. It also addresses a problem with world collision, i.e. stopping you and objects falling through the world.

We expected that 1.04 will not fully resolve the crashing problem. We are working on a more substantial future update that we expect will eliminate the crashing entirely. As always, we don’t give dates, because we don’t want to disappoint.

Stay tuned to @SubnauticaPS on Twitter, Subnautica PlayStation on Facebook, and sign up to the PlayStation development newsletter to be notified the moment the next update goes live.

Thank you for all your bug reports and feedback. We’re listening, we’re in this for the long haul, and we will keep updating Subnautica on PlayStation based on what you’re telling us.

Subnautica Xbox Update 1.0.0.29 Released

Subnautica Xbox Update

Subnautica on Xbox One has just received an update. 0.29 should end the scourge of missing resources, and slightly improve performance.

  • Fixed an issue causing fish and resources to sometimes not load into the world
  • Prewarming of managed heap to reduce expansion stalls.
  • Increase of object pool counts
  • Optimize animations to cull when not visible.
  • Optimize bubbles and fix multi-pop issue
  • Optimize rigid-bodies
  • Optimize mesh streaming order

We know that you’re experiencing some pretty severe bugs at the moment. 0.29 fixes quite a few issues, but there is more work to be done. We’re still cranking on further updates.

Unfortunately, resources will not re-spawn in areas you have already visited in a saved game. To get a full resource spawn, you will need to start a new game. We are tremendously sorry for this inconvenience and we know it is unacceptable. We’re working our butts off to make future updates better.

Thank you for all your feedback and bug reports. Every time you report a saved game error, dropped frame rate, or missing resource, it helps us gauge what we need to be working on.

Check out the Early Access Site for a countdown clock.

We can’t wait to welcome you into the frigid waters!

Below Zero on Xbox & PlayStation – When?

$

Subnautica Below Zero is going into Early Access on Mac & Windows PC. We want to bring Below Zero to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as soon as possible. We don’t know when it will be, and predicting dates is a Bad Thing™ – We don’t want to disappoint you by speculating about a date we don’t know we can hit.

On Xbox One, we may be able to release Below Zero in Game Preview (Microsoft’s “Early Access” program) before launch. We can’t promise this, but we are exploring the possibility. Sony does not allow Early Access games, so we will not be releasing any kind of preview on PlayStation.

We are aiming to release the 1.0 version of Below Zero simultaneously on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Mac, and Windows PC. We don’t know if we can do it, but that is our target, and we’ll keep you updated on our progress.

In the mean time, we are continuing to work on updates for the original Subnautica on both Xbox and PlayStation.

Signup to the PlayStation or Xbox Subnautica development newsletter to be kept up to date on Below Zero console release news. You can also follow @SubnauticaXbox and @SubnauticaPS on Twitter, and SubnauticaXbox and SubnauticaPlayStation on Facebook.

We’re racing to bring Below Zero to consoles as soon as possible, and we can’t for you to join us in the icy depths!

Subnautica: Below Zero is now available in Early Access! Set one year after the original Subnautica, Below Zero challenges you to survive a disaster at an alien research station on Planet 4546B.

This frozen underwater adventure is a work in progress. As we did with Subnautica, we are building Below Zero out in the open. With your help, we will craft a worthy follow up to the original game.

Below Zero is full of bugs, runs poorly, and includes only a small portion of our planned features. It’s also a game we’re excited about. If you join us, we think you might enjoy this journey through Early Access.

If you would like to wait until the game is finished, please sign up to our Development Newsletter. We’ll let you know as soon as the game is done!

Below Zero Micro-Update Released

$

A small update has been released for Below Zero on the Steam, Epic, and Discord stores. This update is not a major feature release. It contains some bug fixes and improvements, and tries to fix some (but not all!) of the issues your feedback revealed after Below Zero release.

This update also serves to test our new triple-store build deployment system. This system sends the update to each of the Epic, Discord, and Steam stores at the same time. We want to make sure it is working properly before we release a major feature update.

To be notified as soon as we do release our first major feature update, subscribe to the Subnautica development newsletter, follow @Subnautica on Twitter, @Subnautica on Instagram, Subnautica on Facebook, and subscribe to Subnautica on Youtube.

Please keep sending us your feedback! We’d love to hear from you in the in-game feedback system (press F8 while playing), here on our forums, or in our Discord chat. Below Zero is still full of bugs, but with your continued feedback we will whittle them away during Early Access.

Subnautica PS4 Update 1.07 Released

Good news, PlayStation subnauts! Update 1.07 has been released. We’ve been working hard to address one of the most painful issues for PlayStation players: Crashes caused by Subnautica sucking up too much memory. 1.07 doesn’t fix all crashing, but we have eliminated lots of crashes in the end-game sequence.

Here’s the full changelog:

  • Photo albums now save properly
  • Removed a false wall in the Aurora locker room
  • Seamoth docking now more reliable
  • Optimizations to address memory related crashes in end game

In addition, we have added more descriptive messages for game-saving errors. If you encounter an error saving or loading a game, please let us know on the forums, or on Twitter. Include the error description, and that will help us track down the root cause of save issues.

To be notified the moment we release the next PlayStation update, follow @SubnauticaPS on Twitter, Subnautica PlayStation on Facebook, and sign up to the PlayStation development newsletter!

Thanks for playing, we hope you enjoy diving in 1.07.
